Descendants of Redmond Hanlon

Generation No. 1

Redmond Hanlon, born 1815 in Ireland; died between 1900 and 1912 in Burlington, VT.  He married Mary Flemming.

Mary Flemming or Fleming, born 1830 in Ireland; died October 25, 1912 in Burlington, VT.  She was the daughter of  William and Eliza Flemming.

Notes for Redmond Hanlon:

According to census records he had eleven children in all. His birth date is given as 1807 in the 1880 census and his wife’s as 1820. He emigrated in 1868 and is listed in the 1869/70 Burlington (Vermont) City Directory (p.44) as a laborer living on Water Street between King and Maple Streets. He was also listed as a laborer in the 1882/3 Gazetteer and Business Directory of Chittenden County, which lists his address as 37 Main St., Burlington and lists William H. Hanlon and John J. Hanlon at the same address. This directory does not list wives and children. I assume from this that William had not yet married. The identity of John J. Hanlon is uncertain. The only John Hanlon in the 1880 census (two years earlier) is a laborer in Bennington, born in 1840, with a wife named Katherine and a daughter named Mary, age 3. Redmond Hanlon’s name is given as Edmund Hanlon on his son's marriage certificate but as Redmond in census records.
