Descendants of Donald McDougall

Generation No. 1

DONALD MCDOUGALL was born in Scotland. He married MARY JANE LANDLING.She was born in Prince Edward Island. Their names and birthplaces are on the record of their son Angusís marriage. Their son Peterís marriage record states they were both born on P.E. Island. Donald is listed as a laborer. The 1881 census for Township #1, Prince Edward Island, list Jane McDougal, age 46 (b.1835), as head of household and says she was born on PEI, is Catholic, and came from Irish stock. The identity of Donald, who is sometimes said to have been born in Scotland, is still a mystery. The surname Landling does not appear in PEI records. Landrys and Landrigans, however, are plentiful.

Angus was a carpenter at the time of his marriage and his bride was listed as a ďdomestic.Ē Witnesses to the marriage were Donald McDonald and Mary McDougall (probably Angusís sister). Elizabethís death certificate incorrectly lists her fatherís name as Charles Ashley, born in Maine, but her motherís name is correctly given as Jennie Fitzgerald, born in Canada. According to the 1900 census, both Angus and Elizabeth came to the U.S. in 1886. By 1900 they had been married eleven years and she had given birth to five children, four of whom were living. At the time of her death, Elizabeth had been confined in the Bangor State Hospital for twenty years and ten months. Angus McDougall was living with his son Clayton at the time of the 1930 census.
